Membership and Circulation- Patron will be asked to complete a membership application card. Proof (Drivers License or Utility Bill) of identification and residency will be required.
- Geneva Public Library does not issue library cards.
- Children may be members of the library. A parent or guardian's signature will be required for persons age 15 and under. (age 16 or older must show drivers license otherwise parent / guardian signature is required).
- Children aged 6 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult (aged 18 or older) at ALL times while in the library. The library cannot assume responsibility for the safety of young children. Children aged 7 through ten must have a responsible adult present inside the library. All patrons will be expected to display appropriate behavior, conducive to maintaining a peaceful atmosphere while in the building. PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS, NOT LIBRARY STAFF, ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACTIONS AND SAFETY OF CHILDREN VISITING THE LIBRARY.
- Each patron is responsible for materials checked out on that individual's membership.
- Two items may be checked out the first time on a new patron card. After that a limit of 5 items may be checked out per patron membership.
- Books are checked out for a two-week period and may be renewed one time, if no reserves or requests (holds) are placed on the item.
- Books may be renewed at the front desk or by phone or by logging into our online library and using the user id and password assigned by the library staff.
- Adult overdue charges are $0.25 per day per item with overdue fines not to exceed replacement price per item.
- Child overdue charges are $0.05 per day per item with overdue fines not to exceed replacement price per item.
- Exception to regular overdue charges applies to New and / or Best Seller items. Overdue charges are $1.00 per day per item not to exceed replacement value of item.
- Patrons having lost or damaged books and/or library materials shall be charged current retail replacement.
- Videos/DVDs are checked out to patrons aged 16 or older for 2 weeks with no renewals. Only 2 videos/DVDs may be checked out per member. Videos/DVDs must be returned to the Main Desk. A fine of $1.00 per item will be charged if video/DVD is placed in book return.
- Audio books are checked out to patrons aged 16 or older. Only 2 audio books may be checked out on a borrower's card. Audio books must be returned to the Main Desk. A fine of $1.00 per item will be charged if audio books are placed in book return.
- Overdue notices will begin after materials are one week late.
- A limit of 2 items may be placed on reserve / hold per patron. If the item is not picked up within 48 hours of reserve request, the item will be placed back into regular circulation.
- Copies are :
- .15 per (8 1/2” x 11”) sheet single side. .20 for double side copies.
- .30 per (8 1/2” x 14”) sheet single side. .40 for double side copies
- If you are in elementary, middle, or high school, we do not charge for copies that are associated with a school project. You must show a library representative these copies for this rule to be in effect.
- The Librarian may deny service to any person for failure to return borrowed items, or refusal to pay fines, for destruction of property, or objectionable conduct in the library. All circulation records and registration information are confidential and will be surrendered only by court order.
Staff Restrictions and / or limitationsDue to staff restrictions and / or limitations the Geneva Public Library staff are unable to provide the following services: - Type resumes, business or personal letters, email or any other kind of personal or business correspondence.
- Fill out job applications or unemployment information.
- Setup or maintain any type of personal or business accounts, such as but not limited to: email, banking or any other personal or business information accounts.
- Computer training. Our local colleges offer excellent beginner courses.
- Genealogy research.
Computer Use and Internet Access PolicyThe Internet is an unregulated medium. Although the Geneva Public Library has filters in place, the library cannot control or monitor all material accessible via the Internet. It is possible that individuals might access information they personally find offensive. Also understand that sources on the Internet do not always provide accurate, complete, or current information.The staff of the Geneva Public Library has the authority to restrict use of computers and the Internet for any action that constitutes unethical, illegal, or unbecoming behavior. - Do not access information that promotes hate or violence. The staff of the Geneva Public Library has the right to make determinations on this.
- Do not change background, menu, or any other desktop settings on the computer.
- Do not download, install, or delete any applications, programs, or software.
- Do not make unauthorized entry into any computer or network.
- Do not access chat rooms.
- Do not transmit or send obscene or harassing material.
- Do not sign up or use the Internet for another person.
- Do not copy “copyrighted” material.
- Do not move to another computer during a session without permission from the library staff.
- It is recommended that you use a jump drive / flash drive when saving documents. These may be purchased at many retail outlets.
- Parents must sign on behalf of children less than 16 years of age. You must show proof of age when asked. If you do not have a drivers license or other valid proof of age, you must have a parent / guardian signature on file.
- You have one hour period of use per day. If no one is waiting for a computer, you may be granted longer than one hour not to exceed 2 hours per day per patron.
- Users must end their session and leave the terminal when asked to do so by authorized Library staff.
- Upon completion of an Internet access session, a user is required to wait 30 minutes before signing up for another session.
- If you need to take an exam or access video training that will exceed 1 hour, you will need to to call ahead no less than 24 hours in advance to reserve computer access. If appointment is broken by not arriving on time or not showing up, the computer will be placed back in regular circulation. You will need to reschedule.
Cell Phone and Library Phone PolicyCell phones must be silenced in the Library. Use of cell phones by library patrons while inside the Library is prohibited.The library's phone is for library business only. An exception may be made in emergency situations or to allow a child to contact a parent / guardian.
